I’ve been following this snapping turtle around since 2009 and noticed last year it didn’t seem to be feeling too well. It was surprisingly light for its size and was almost always beached on land. The poor guy finally died in late spring and I’ve been watching him skeletonize for a few months. Finally, today I got up the courage to spirit the remains out of the cesspool it was living in. I’ll admit it’s exciting to own this huge carapace, but I’d much prefer to still see this turtle lurking about.
